The Chase 2

Second in a series of Lily and Mia chasing photos. It's like a big game of tag with dog spit flying around. Lily has had a little too much holiday and needed the run.

7D2, 70-200 @ 160, ISO 500, 1/3200 @ f8, cropped for comp, spot meter on the snow +1 or so.

Comments and critiques are appreciated.

Jerry,

great image and it shows something I often say about action photos: The visual effect is more dramatic if the subjects move towards the viewer or like her diagonal towards the viewer. I also like that the front dog ( have forgaten the name ... ) looks somehow having a lot of fun.

Great also from the technical part, good focus on the front dog, and the exposure is right on, ,eaning good details in the snow and dogs.

Is Lily the dog in the back?  She reminds me of our Gracie in this photo.

Good capture of the action!

Lily is the Puggle in front. Mia is a Boxer Shepherd mix.  And she does look a little like Gracie.

Nothing like a smiling dogcool. The sharp focus on Lily (matching color harness?) and soft focus on her friend give dynamism to the scene. Tough exposure, I imagine, but handled very well.

Excellent shot of Lily in this image, Jerry.  For my taste, Mia doesn't really add much to the image and I'd be tempted to try to crop her out and just concentrate all the attention on Lily and the snow she's kicking up.  Excellent job on the snow exposures of these.

The dogs are "all in", aren't they. Great shot, even if I like the next better. I differ with Dennis about inclusion of the dog in back. It is a game of chase between the two dogs. It may not be perfectly made, but it does seem to me both dogs are necessary.

Hi Jerry,

I like this one a lot. For me inclusion of Mia (the chaser - right?) adds a lot to the image in the context of telling a story (and showing why Lily is running in the first place. To me your choices pertaining to focus, aperture and DoF, shutter speed, and composition were all good here and contribute to the success of this image. Lots of things done right by the photographer here!

Cheers...

Congratulations on your weekly pick win.  Great image!  I really love dogs and these two are having a great time.
