Sandstone Art

Picture sandstone can be quite amazing.  Much of this comes from the area between St. George and Kanab, Utah.  The markings were created by micro deposition of sediments millions of years ago.  Basically, you are looking at a crosscut section of a  "fossilized" sand dune or mud flat.  I think it is quite special.  Because it is a cut slab, I am posting it in the POP gallery.  This piece is about 15" by 10".

iso 50, 28mm macro, f4.5, 20th sec, full frame, D800E, fluorescent and LED lighting.

That is beautiful! Like a painting, with great lines and color.

Sheesh, David! You are on a roll with your recent images posted, but this is certainly in a league by itself. Wonderful vision to see this and bring it to fruition as presented. Seriously cool work here.

David: had you not revealed that this was a slab of sandstone, I would have thought it was a painting. Very interesting. Richard

Amazing. This looks like the rolling hills of a landscape.

David, this is a great look at one of my favorite stones.  I think it's special that while this slab of stone is formed from ancient dunes the scene it shows also looks like a dunescape.

Love this David, excellent abstract. It reminds me a bit of a stain glass window.
