Roadkill Dinner

There are a lot of Turkey Vultures in my area during the summer months just waiting for something to get killed on the road. When I came upon this scene there was a flock of turkey vultures which flew up into the trees, but this one was not going to leave it's dinner, a raccoon.   It gave me a good opportunity to gets some shots, although it was keeping an eye on me. Canon SL1, f.5.6, 1/500, ISO 100. Thanks for viewing, comments always welcome.

Good detail in the vultures plumage!  Shows the vultures role very well.  Might be just a bit tight on the LRC.  A bit more room there if possible.  Seen similar scenes several times, but the vultures never staid long enough for a photo.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Cindy, welcome to the WC gallery.  This is a fine look at this Turkey Vulture, doing what they do best, with excellent detail throughout the bird.  (Good details in the raccoon, too, but for some reason that part isn't quite as inviting....enlightened )  I like your square crop and where you've positioned the subjects.  As a minor nit, I'd like to not have the raccoon's tail cut off by the frame.  If you have it, a bit more space on the right would probably be good, but that has to be balanced against the overall framing.

An excellent capture, Cindy!  The exposure and colors are perfect and the definition in feathers and fur are exceptional.  The clipped tail is inconsequential for me (I wouldn't have even noticed if Mark hadn't mentioned it).  Well done! devil
