Gold Rush

A little play on words.  Gold from the reflection of Aspens, and the reflection on to Rush Creek.  This is the creek that follows much of the June Lake Loop that eventually feeds Mono Lake.  A historical connection to the restoration of water to Mono Lake.

One of my very first nature images with the dslr; a borrowed D700.  This is a slight crop from the original. Nothing original about this comp. Full disclosure, I splashed the rock to make it wet - dry was boring.... angel enlightened

I don't know if I like the photo or the title more, it's a perfect title! I really enjoy the patterns in the water combined with that sweet yellow color. The splashing of the rock was a wise decision, a dry rock in a body of water often looks a bit out of place. No nits for me.

Lon,
Very pretty. Simple, effective composition. Your choice of framing is excellent. Love the warm reflected light. Shutter speed selection is also spot on - maintaining both movement and nice level of texture in the water. One very minor nit in viewing the large version - there seems to be a specular highlight or something on the bottom right of that prominent rock that seems to hold my eye.

An oft-chosen comp for sure Lon but you did it to perfection with your chosen shutter speed.  Excellent detail and color.

Really nice Lon.  I like the color combo and the shutter speed is perfect for the mood of this image.  There is one little white spot on the rock that I would clone.  I love the title too.

The golden reflection, the shutter speed and the perfect placement of the rock which creates a line with the rapids left of it make this composition work so well for me. The reflection in the top right looks particularly good. Having said that, I agree with your - nothing original and a bit standard fare. But then, for your first image with a DSLR, this is pretty darn nice!

Very nice comp of rapid with shimmering fall colors.  Perfect water exposure to accentuate the wet granite. Eye never get tired of these images of yours.

Lon, I like splashing rocks too! This really does look nice and especially in the larger version. The water motion along with the gold reflections just look and works wonderfully. I think your shutter speed was right on the money for this shot and I really like this composition.

Nicely done. I hope this doesn't sound too stupid, but originality is overrated. Aren't we all just photographing things that have been photographed a million times? It's what we add to it with our own vision that makes it unique.enlightened

The golden light makes this shot. And, the splashing of the rock of course! Have I seen this rock elsewhere in your portfolio?
