This bird is still present and I need to get back down to where it has been hanging out before it decides to head back North.  This shot was taken with the duck farther out down river near a stone and cement break wall. which is the BG. K5 IIs  600mm f5.6 (1/125 sec at f11, ISO 400) 50% crop....................................Jim

Excellent job on the exposure of the duck, Jim.  Nice detail as well.  My only small nit is that the bokeh in the rough retaining wall has a "crinkly" look that is upsetting to my eye, so I'd probably blur that featue a bit which would be very easy to do in this composition.  Nice job.

Jim:

Nice opportunity with this duck.  Exposure looks fine.  I looked a the larger version and understand the comment from Dennis on the "crinkly" look of the wall.  Since the wall isn't helpful, I'd try to minimize its' impact.  Heres a version with a couple of mods:

Straightened the horizon based on the wall/water line
Applied a field blur to soften the wall
Darkened the wall just a bit to help reduce its' impact.

Probably hard to see the change in the wall blurring at the smaller size...

Nice image of the duck. Personally, I would crop out the light wall along the water line and the lower +/- third  of the image.  Also, I would do some light enhancement on the head and eye.
