Out playing  with composition and DOF when I saw this Maple. It made an impression on me, with its few remaining leaves and colour, (me all bundled up in a parka, scarf and gloves), so I used it as the foreground of this photo.
Comments and thoughts welcomed as always.

I think that compositionally this has a lot going for it, Jim. It would be worth coming back when the light isn't quite as harsh, particularly if the maple had some of the last sun rays on it, so that the maple could stand out visually from the background more. The clouds look very good but the blue sky has quite a bit of noise in it that can be processed away.

It would be helpful for critiquing if you uploaded a larger version. The site allows images up to 1600px and the software automatically produces the size shown here. Also there appear to be houses and other signs of the hand of man on the far ridge so this image would properly be placed in the Man & Nature gallery. Finally it is a good idea to have several times more comments than image posts so that everyone can get the full benefits of you being an NPN member. The typically recommended ratio is 5:1, the more you do it the easier it gets! crying
