Contemplative Moments

Good Day All,

These moments in time are one of a kind, and we as photographers have the opportunity to capture these moments. We have the opportunity to present our vision to the world, but not any vision, but rather our own unique view. This was such a peaceful and wonderful night to be out capturing moments in time at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in Upper Michigan.

I appreciate any thoughts y'all may have on this image

Canon 70d, f 11, ISO 100, 1 second, tripod, shutter release, lots of hot packs for hands, lol

processed in Lightroom and Photoshop CC

Ryan,
This is very nice. Well composed and a lot of interesting elements, and those icicles are awesome. Processing looks good.

The color of that water is really interesting. It's almost a mahogany brown. The far icycles are interesting. For me the image is the bottom 2/3rds. The upper 1/3 seems less relevant to the subject. I would crop this to almost a square format that includes all of the bottom section. The snow is great around the falls with the fog rising. That area is to me the heart of the image.

Haha, love the inclusion of hot packs in the photo data! Gorgeous shot I must say, really nice. Poor trees that have to carry the massive weight of those icicles. What captures my attention the most is the trinity of the waterfalls-icicles-pink clouds. My eyes keep going through that triangle, especially because I really like how their respective colors combine with each other. Therefore I think I agree with Igor about cropping some of the top, even if this works as is for me. Sweet!

Hi Ryan, I really like this image. You captured the feel of this cold winter evening wonderfully. The rising mist from the falls adds such a nice touch and I love the cool blue evening tones in this which makes one feel like they are right there. I have been there and what I seem to remember was that coming up with a good comp was a challenge and you came up with one that looks and works great. I like it just as it is and really wouldn't want to change it, but I'm sure the suggested crop would work nice too. I also remember how brown the water is here at Tahquamenon.

Ryan,

Indeed, so often when out in nature, photographing, it is all about "moments" - that's been my mantra anyway for a long time and fortunate to grab that domain name in the mid 90's!

This is a most interesting and unique perspective for a waterfall; in fact the image is less about the falls and more about the place, the moment as you say.  I think this is very well balanced, the colors are good relative to the light and conditions.  And I really like the little splash of color on the far horizon.

Nicely seen and presented, I like it!

A nice peaceful moment captured. The little section of colored sky really adds to the scene, too. I would be inclined to mask off everything but the sky and pull the cyan way, way down, making the snow neutral. But the blue may work for your vision of the image.

I'm really liking this Ryan. The color looks appropriately cold but is offset by the warmth of the falls and the hint of color in the sky. The icicles are a special feature. I also like the lean of the trees that mirrors the fall of the water.
