Same bird and same pond as my last post except it was on the other side of the pond and in the shade for this shot.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 Contemporary @ 211 mm, hand held, f/7.1, 1/500, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1 1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 4x5 aspect ratio with a touch extra off both the top and bottom.  Final size is 12.8 MP before resizing for web.  Taken at 11:06 AM on January 14th at the Moanalua Gardens near Honolulu, Hawaii.

Comments and criticisms are appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice one Dennis, and the shadows work pretty well here showing all the detail in the plumage. Also the eye stands out excellent against the BG ! devil, cheers, Hans

Very nice. Unlike the other herons and egrets I rarely see Cattle Egrets around water.

In horse and cattle country, here in Texas...very strange to see a cattle egret next to water!

This looks real nice Dennis.  Great light on the bird, allowing the details to show.  Good pose, sharp.  Like others, I have never seen a cattle egret adjacent to water - always in pastures, usually around - well - cattle!  Nice image.

I like how the cattle egret stands out well from the BG.  Nice pose.  The whites look good.  I see a lot of readers were surprised to see this bird by the water.  My experience in Hawaii was they were in the fields and marsh areas.  But I never got this close.
