Quiet Skillet Creek RP#2

I made this picture of Skillet Creek on a beautiful autumn morning. This area gets pretty busy with photographers and especially in the fall, but on this morning I had the place to myself for a little while which was quite enjoyable. Just behind me from where I shot this image the creek enters a gorge and is really popular with photographers now. I think the quiet peaceful days are probably far and few between now, but I do see why so many people want to visit this area.
Please view the larger version as it shows off the scene much better. Thanks!

Nick,
Very pretty and peaceful image. The reflections are gorgeous and in my view the strongest element in the image. I see some areas in the upper center that look a bit hot. I would try to burn those down to keep the focus on the lower half.

This is really sweet, Nick. I like this a lot. In my opinion woodland scenes are your strongest suit. That's a sweeping statement and I could be wrong but as far as I remember most of my favorite scenes have been in the forests, often with running water. Anyway, that's neither here nor there. A couple of minor nits. That tree on the far left causes a straight dark edge to go from top to bottom. I feels that it breaks down the composition a tad. I would do something about that. The 2nd is that the overall image seems just a tad too warm for my tastes. How can a fall image be too warm? Don't know but it feels that way. It looks that way on only my desktop, which I trust more. These are really minor issues for a truly amazing image.

Your images always have a way of making me fell like I have already been to a place or would really like to be there. Fine image.

RP# 1  Thanks much guys! I appreciate your thoughts and suggestions on this.
Igor, I did crop this in on the left side a little thinking it might work better going right to that left tree, but maybe it doesn't. I do have more room on that edge in the original comp. Here it is. Thanks all, Nick

I like the original post better.  My eye is drawn into the image in the center to right side.  Including more, especially the bright areas on the left, detracts from the wonderful mood of this a bit for me.

Very pretty Nick with lovely dappled light, complex but organised. I like it.

Very appealing fall image Nick, making art out of chaos. The reflection is probably responsible for that. If it were mine I might darken the entire reflected area to make it more water-like but that's a minor nit for sure.

I prefer the original over the repost, because the original is much warmer. Despite a few small bright areas it much more conveys the atmosphere of a quiet autumn morning. The two off center tree trunks and their reflections organize the image. Looking at the reflections it could use a small ccw rotation, imho. I could look for a long time at a big print of this image.

You capture the tranquility in nature so well and this is no exception, Nick. I am really enjoying the autumn color in the reflections along with the lighting in this beautiful scene. Very nicely done.

Love the glowing yellow and quiet feel to this. The two dark trunks give a focus to the eye, and it does have a special, private feel to it. Perhaps that is because of your comment that it is becoming a popular area. Lovely intimate scene.

Sorry I'm so late commenting on this Nick.  My computer time has been limited over the last week or so.  I really like the original, very painterly and suits your style to a tee.  The dark trunk Igor pointed out does sort of block the left side.  I think if it were mine I might crop to just inside it.  There is a small orangish red leaf just off center right just above the water line that I would clone before printing and this image will make a wonderful print.  Love it.

Thanks Gary! Glad you liked it. I'll try that crop and see how it works, sounds like a good suggestion. I also had the same thoughts on that leaf. Appreciate the comment! Nick

Nick,

I'm even later on commenting!  But had to cause this is gorgeous!  I love the brilliance of the colors throughout.

I do agree with at least the perception of a slight rotation, but that's minor.

Love this!

Thank you, Lon! Glad you enjoyed it and I appreciate your thoughts. Igor H. mentioned the rotation as well so I'll give it a little before I print this. Nick

And I am even later with commenting, victory is mine!

Very nice and classic autumn scene, love it! I do think I would crop out the tree to the left, putting more focus on the two in the center. I would prefer that over the repo, because that would give a more intimate scene I think.

The final crop. It works for me. Thanks for the help! Nick
I did have to save this at a very low setting to get it down to 500kb so it might not look as good as it should.

Your final version indeed works best for me, Nick. I appreciate the atmosphere a lot and your treatment of colors is spot on to my eye.

This is spectacular, Nick!  Wonderfully peaceful with the stream reflections as well as wonderfully warm and inviting with the fall colors glowing so nicely from the light.
