Mountain Plover

A rare bird sighting in Oregon.  I had heard one was spotted along the coast and I was fortunate enough to find it.  The wind was blowing 20-30 mph off the ocean and this guy was hunkered down with the sand blowing over its head.  Fortunately, my back and camera were facing away from the wind. Still, I hope I've gotten the sand out of my push-pull telephoto.

Thanks for looking.  Comments and thoughts for improvement always appreciated.

Rare bird for Oregon but a fairly common day on the beach.  Amazed you were able to find it.  That's a mighty big coast line.  You managed to get a very fine image in not so fine conditions (at 1/2000ths the blowing sand still has streaks!).  This little one probably wishes it were in the mountains rather than more than knee deep in sand.  Love it.

A photo that really tells a story, Allen. I like this very much; the bird hunkered down, the blowing sand, the bird squinting. This is excellent. Well worth the risk of sand in your zoom lens.

Agree this one really tells a story.  One of the better mountain plover images I have seen with a good pose and a complimentary background.  Well done.

Excellent, Allen.  I was on one of your beaches once in wind like that and was fearful for my gear.  Unfortunately, I didn't come away with anything like this.  Very well done.
