Peaking Out

I had a great morning in Death Valley. The clouds hung around this area of the mountains for at least an hour, coming in and out, breaking up and reforming, just giving the mountains a vapor massage. I enjoyed a great cup of coffee and some shutter snapping taking them in. I will be posting a color image from the morning in the future.

Harley, the breaks in the cloud cover could not have been better IMO. The amount of mountain terrain being exposed is of importance to the wonderful composition overall. I find the amount of FG landmass to the amount of BG sky a perfect balance to the scene also. Another very fine image from DVNP.......laugh

This is excellent. Looks like you captured the right moment with the mountain top peaking through. That lower hanging cloud is awesome. Not sure what your color images look like but the B&W rendering looks great.

That lower cloud is very neat, I really like what that one adds to this scene. I am curious for the coming color version, but this is one excellent B+W. BTW, what I find interesting to see is that only the higher part of the mountains (~ above the lower cloud) and the bottom of the valley seem to have vegetation, but not the part in between. Is there a reason for this?

What a wonderful b&w image this is. It's a fantastic view and you captured it in amazing conditions. I love the b&w processing you did on this. Really beautiful image.

Well done, Harley.  The large view is a MUST see, love the mountain peak "peeking" out of the clouds.

Quite the wild scene, Harley, with the clouds and mountains mixed so nicely.  B&W really lets the textures and shapes stand out.  A very striking view with the right amount of flatland.

Harley,
The black and white choice works very well with your vision and processing. Those clouds are very nice, and they really provide that extra dimension that takes this image to the next level.

Very nicely seen and capture, sweet stuff

Beautiful b/w Harley.  You must be living right to be graced by such an awesome sky in Death Valley.  I love this one.  The layers of light and shadow starting from the foreground to the peak are perfect. Really well done.

This is awesome! And what a scene for a b&w conversion!  I have no nitpicks or suggestions, I love this as presented!

Great textures Harley!  Much of the effect of B&W is about texture and tonality!
