Common Redpoll

The last week or so I have had a lone redpoll in my yard.  They usually come in large flocks!!  This one is eating constantly and appears to be getting nice and fat.  Maybe she is happier not having any friends because then she gets all the food. To get this shot I lay down on the snow in my backyard.  Nikon D810, 300 mm lens plus 1.4 tc, f 10.  Even at f 10 the tail is not sharp.

Once again your comments and critiques are appreciated.

Wonderful angle, May, and the Redpoll is tack sharp with a very cute head turn.  The snow is looking a bit grayish-you might try bumping the exposure on it a bit.  Lovely image.

Terrific image as posted. A rarity even in my NJ years - I haven't seen one of these in 30 or more years now.

Well, it was worth the effort.  Nice one.

This is really nice May. I love the cute head turn and sharp feather detail in the Redpoll. The snowy foreground and background are wonderful but I agree with Dennis concerning the exposure of the snow. I would brighten it up some. Great frame!devil

Hi Pete:
Laying down in the snow is not a problem Pete, at least you are clean when you get up.  However, laying down in the mud in the summer now that is a different matter.

Cheers. May
