Tree Swallow

This is from the same morning session as the Band-tailed Pigeon I posted yesterday.  It's amazing what kind of colors these birds can turn depending on the angle and color of the light.  I think this is the bluest I've ever seen one.

1D4, 500mm f4 ISL + 2.0TC, Jobu Gimbal on Gitzo legs, f/8, 1/40 sec, iso 640, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  I had too much lens for this, but wasn't about to try changing it at this point so I very carefully framed the bird to try to get it all in.  I just barely cleared the tail.  When I processed it, I played with it and finally tried adding canvas on the top, bottom and right.  It took a bit of playing to get the perch to work out, but I think it came out all right eventually.  Taken in my backyard at 4:45 AM on June 29, 2014.

Your comments and criticisms are welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Very nice, Dennis.  That's bluer than I've ever seen one as well.

Nice over the shoulder pose Dennis with marvelous feather detail. You're right that the colors of these birds vary a lot depending on light. Nice work!
