It's been a while since I've posted here - still catching the 'fall-out' from moving house ;-) ... Nevertheless, we managed to get out at the weekend to search for perhaps the first Hepatica nobilis (Liverwort) in the region. As it happened, we came across a wonderful field full of Clematis vitalba (Old Man's Beard). This plant has always fascinated me due to the wonderful graphic structures the seed heads produce. Here a shot from a little more remote to the subject than I had originally planned so as to capture the full effect of the light on the total flower head. The fading sun was actually quite strongly shielded by trees so that the background was much darker than the ambient light would suggest. I was thus able to use a longer exposure than would otherwise have been possible, thereby allowing me to capture much of the structure of the old flower head.
