Ram's Heads

Ram's head slipper orchids are becoming more scarce every year.  This population exists in dry sand dunes growing between jack pines, white cedars and junipers.  I photographed this pair early in the morning which produced a wonderful warm glow to the scene.  I found this image in my Lightroom catalog begging to be posted. Enjoy them while you can! K5 IIs 180mm f3.5 (1/80sec at f9.0, ISO 200)............................................Jim

Nice find and an excellent image of these two slipper orchids in their natural environment, Jim. Good job getting both in focus and isolated from the bg.

Very nice, Jim !  Love the backdrop with its graded colours, and the flowers stand out beautifully in sharp detail

What a treat to see these rare and tiny beauties!  They are native to Upstate NY, but I have never seen one, partly because I don't spend enough time around the limestone areas where they live.

Good job getting them both in focus, and the low POV is great to show their unique pouch.  The vertically-streaked OOF background works very well in this shot, too.
