Western Spindalis
by May Haga
One of North America's smallest tanagers. I photographed this bird in Cuba. Apparently they occasionally appear in Florida but no where else in the US and Canada. What is interesting to me about this shot is the shooting data. Nikon D810, 300 2.8, 1.4 tc, f 5.6, ISO 640, shutter speed 1/125. Hand Held. This bird suddenly appeared and I did not think it was in poor light and quickly took the shot. I am still very bad at quickly checking my settings before I shoot. This time I got lucky. The bird is sharp. Please check larger version. I am not a 25 year old body builder but leaning towards the aged state !!!
Thanks for looking and critiques or comments appreciated.

8 commentsYou nailed this one. I do not see any evidence of camera shake and you have to give an assist to the tanager for sitting still for the shot. The BG is nice anfd has just enough colors to complement the plumage of the bird. Well done
