High Desert Layers - REPOST

I have spent more than a few evenings at this location trying to get favorable conditions for this comp. Last month I finally got an image that I'm pretty happy with.
At this point in my photography, while I still love to scout and explore new locations, I'm finding satisfaction in returning to the same spot multiple times seeking better lighting conditions and composition refinement. Appreciate comments, critiques and suggestions. Thanks

Love the layers here, especially the way they contrast with each other in colour and patterns.

The large version is absolutely breathtaking Dave.  Love the layered effect and the brilliant colors.  There's a huge difference in looking at this on my "real" monitor at home and my monitor here at work.  It really comes to life on a good monitor and just blows the viewer away.

Another lovely result from this spot. If I have to be picky than I would say that I feel that the foreground hills have a bit too much space compared to the mountains in the background. I feel like I want to see more of the mountains to get a better balance. But, regardless of that, this a gorgeous shot, especially the large version! The layers of grasses in the foreground is so nice with the contrasting bright yellow and dark red.

Dave, What a cool looking image this is. Wonderful composition with all the layers and I love the contrasting colors you have here. The larger version is a real treat!  Beautiful work!

Dave,

Running out of superlatives to describe your imagery!  Kudos to you for returning to the same spot.  I coined this phrase a few years back that says: "Familiarity breads creativity."  Or at least it can.  If you let it happen, returning to the same location often forces one to see things in new ways; and of course recognizing and appreciate the different conditions, seasons, etc.

This is gorgeous as presented (small nit in a sec.)  I think also you have a two-fer.  Slice this horizontally across the middle and you have two new fabulous panos! ;-)

Small suggestions.  I would drop the blue a couple notches in the darker parts of the bg mountain ranger.  Other than that - ship it!

Lon

I have to agree with Bill Chambers comments: on a good monitor the large version comes to life. I thought the large middle layer was too dark for the amount of space it takes but on a good monitor those hills come alive. The reds on the bottom just seem to be on fire but artistically speaking that oversaturation works very well here because it plays off that band of grass on the bottom. Just a really nice image. Don't know what to recommend except to take out some of the cyan in the urc and make it more bluish? A very minor point that would make little overall difference.

The large detailed view really pops on my monitor. The layered effect really works well here in the colors really stand out nicely. I sit in a fairly dark room when I view these images and have one low watt bulb in the room which allows me to really take in all of the image with minimal distractions. A lot to explore here. Very nice.

I've taken Lon and Igor's suggestions and while subtle they definitely improve the color balance. Amazing that you can stare at an image and these things don't become obvious until someone points them out. Thanks, guys!

Beautiful layering and light, those FG grasses really glowing.  I'm wondering if the scene a little earlier in the evening might produce some great textural lighting and maybe intensify the colors of the near and mid ground areas.  Can't beat the mountain lighting.  This gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling despsite the snow in the image.  A beauty.
