Still Dreaming

It's been a slow winter for me taking photos - not a spectacular winter in NH.  So I've been going back through some of my Iceland shots recently and found this one.  It's actually part of a 4 image panorama, but I thought this was the most evocative section of the view. I found myself often making the comment to other posted images about tightening the image up, so I took my own advice and whittled this down considerably.  I still dream of going back to Iceland and exploring some of the  more off the beaten areas, as the changing light and weather makes for some inspiring opportunities.  This view is similar to a view that I posted a while back, but a must different feel.  While not a BW conversion, the lighting does look pretty BW.  I liked the cool grays, so I didn't go BW.

I haven't gotten tired of looking at your Iceland photos Harry. Especially since you went to places that I did not get a chance to visit. This one is particularly nice with respect to the sky. Iceland is an ever changing environment with surprises around every corner and the passing of every minute. Very nice color balance here and I think you did well to keep this in color rather than black and white.

I hear you about those conditions, winter has not been very great here as well, the camera has been getting quite a lot of rest these last months. Good thing you can dream away with these photos! The tight crop works perfectly for me, and the blueish monotone is very fitting. Is that a hot spring slightly to the right of the center, or is it snow in the wind? Looks like the former to me, but you never know.

Yes Roel, that is a steam vent.  Most of the melt that was going on in this area was due to thermal activity.  There were some interesting snow caves to explore, but I was hesitant being alone as snow was collapsing all around.

This has a very fine graphic quality. Love the dramatic clouds and stark landscape. The snow fields and monochromatic look with just a hint of color really helps simplify the composition.

Nice! Very nice, Harry. The snow looks sunny without the whites being blown out. And the clouds feel like clouds to me. They're dramatic without the whites being too white. There's a lot of technical skill in this image. I particularly like the mountain on the left. That could have been an image just by itself, it's so attractive. There's some smoky mist rising in front of the mountain on the right. I was wondering if that's due to one of those warm springs I keep reading about in Iceland.

I've been suffering from withdrawal symptoms since my trip to Iceland! It's one of the most insane places I've seen. Love the simple pastel colors in this image, and boy do I sure miss those mountains :)

Nice dramatic landscape. The clouds really make the image. Very simple and stark.

Harry I like everything about this!  The graphics that have been mentioned, the subtle color, yet monochromatic, the crop and presentation.  And for me, the contrast and dark to light variance in the clouds really makes this for me.

Not quite as "dreamy" as your previous rendition, but a great display and capture from Iceland.

Harry, Another wonderful image from your Iceland trip. This is so interesting to look at and the larger version gets even better. I like the cool grays in this a lot so glad you didn't do a b&w conversion for this post. Excellent work.

The smokey clouds contrasting with peaks make the shots for me. Terrific presentation.
