Standing Alone

This is a complete rework from the RAW file of an image I posted last Fall. Due to the recent availability of the NIK Collection at no cost, I downloaded the collection and experimented with some of the filters.

Nikon D-7100
Nikkor 15-85mm
Nik Filters
TK Saturation Painting mask and TK Web sharpening actions

Using the Nik filters is a paradigm shift for me in terms of work flow, and also learning a new piece of software. From my early tests, I find the collection to be pretty powerful, and should prove a valuable adjunct to Photo Shop. As I always say, "Research continues..."

Please see the large version. Thanks!

Your thoughts are always appreciated. cool

This is a very peaceful and serene image. Nice separation between the back lit vegetation and the stream. Overall the comp. works very well with good tension and balance between the foreground and the background rock. Well seen and composed.

Technically this is of the highest calibur. I find the growth on the rock awkward looking.

Preston, I'd say the comparison is dramatically better. You would be the best judge of what you did or didn't do to the first image as well as what filtration was used out of the NIK collection here on this post. Overall, it obviously has nothing to do with any field comparison change, just what took place in the PS / NIK lab so to speak. This one almost looks as nice as a film shot.......sad

That is most certainly an improvement compared to the previous version. The added warmth adds so much atmosphere to the photo, and the brightening of the darker parts makes the photo more inviting to me. Very nice! Enjoy the research.

Preston,

Having seen both images up close, this one clearly is a much better result!  The color, saturation, clarity, all those technical things are much, much more pleasing to me.  Great job with this!

The subject and comp are not to be forgotten either.  A finely crafted and captured river image.

That's a very nice intimate landscape. Compared to the one of last fall, I preferred this one because you bring the attention exactly on the flower. All around, water, other stones and brighter lines from the current match very well with it. It would have been probably shorter to say that it's very well balanced photograph. It's a very nice work!

Hi Preston,

Pretty, and a darn good image.  The colors fit well together and the plant on the rock is positioned perfectlydevil..............Jim

ps.:  Nik filters are wonderful and you can't beat that price.  The sharpening tools are awesome!

Very nice, Preston, BIG difference from the original.  Love the clarity overall and the warmer tones in the water.  Well done.

Nicely done! This is a very appealing composition, and I appreciate greatly your processing.  The Nik Suite is fabulous, and I use a variety of its application regularly.  This is a fabulous example.
