Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 x 1.4 TC, handheld from truck window
f7.1, 1/800, ISO1000

We were setting up a route for a Short-eared Owl census in the Camas Prairie, and found this handsome critter on a hill side. Early evening light.

60% of full frame. Adjustments to shadows and highlights; selective sharpening of the animal.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Hi Jim,

I like badger photos, just a neat creature that can turn around in its skin to bite anything that is foolish enough to take one on. Nice pose and the shadows provide some depth. I wish he was a little closer, but you have to give him his space....................Jim

Nice shot of this badger Jim. You did a good job brightening up this image with your settings.

Hi Jim,

Nice shot of a fascinating animal. The jeffersoni sub-species (the one found in my neck of the woods) is list as endangered though some relatively recent reintroductions seem to have been successful.

Your adjustments on this shot seem good in that to my eye the image appears quite "natural" (complete with brighter regions and some shadows - thus giving the image depth). I do wonder if the animal is perhaps centred a bit too much (horizontally) and I wonder if the OOF region in the lower foreground would be best excluded from the image (thus lowering the subject a little in the frame). I do realize that this is already a crop and so my suggestion might be pushing the cropping more than you'd like.

Cheers...

Brad

Brad, that's a good suggestion but I just don't have the pixels to pull it off. I have some other, later shots I'll look at to see if I can improve the ocmpsition.

Very nicely done in what looks like bright light here Jim, I would crop some of the out of focus area off the bottom. devil

Jim,
I have only seen very few images of this animal before, thanks for posting.
Good processing of this "difficult" capture.
Look forward to some moredevil
