I loved the look this Osprey gave us as we drifted in toward its perch.  I wish the sky hadn't been white behind it, but it probably helped cut down some of the harshness of the mid-day sun.

7D2, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600 mm, f/6.3, 1/1600, iso 500, aperture priority, pattern metering, + 1 1/3 EV compensation.  I was using AV mode due to the sun playing tag with clouds and not knowing what the exposure would be from minute to minute.  I'm still not sure whether this or manual works better in this situation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 4x5 aspect ratio with a bit off the top as well.  Image was 13.4 MP before resizing.  Taken at 12:35 PM on March 29th on Salt Spring Run near the junction with the St Johns river.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Quite a look your captured on the ospreys face!  I think it would have been nice to have some color in the sky, but you have to work with what you get on any given day.  I like the composition with the branches on the left side.  Without them I think the BG would be too lacking in detail.  Thanks for sharing.

The white sky is unfortunate, but the eyes sure make up for it.  Really attention getting.

That's a great look from the Osprey with it's head cocked to the side. Some color in the sky would have been nice but it is still a nice capture. The intense eye contact is great and the detail in the bird looks very sharp as well.

I always enjoy straight on shots of these guys. In my opinion, they look a bit goofy when they look right at you. Not near as noble as a bald eagle. Always amazed at the length of their talons. Nice job.
