Ripples, Twigs & Tracks

From April Fool's Day on the edge of the Mesquite Dunes, after a very strange night at the motel with our cat, I got out pre-sunrise to find that there had been little wind overnight. There were footprints everywhere, even away from the parking lot. Then I was sorta invaded by a photography class that inserted themselves (and more footprints) into pretty much every longer vista. I am not used to that!

Nevermind, it's a beautiful place of course... there was a nice warm sunrise that cast some light onto the sand under this red twig bush. There were oodles of critter tracks and I like that watermark that one made in the LRC.

The branches are cool, but I really like the tracks. I agree; nice watermark!

Dave:

These small closely seen worlds are lots of fun, showing  the worlds of activity that usually escape us. So many opportunities that it is often difficult to isolate the image!

Fascinating!

I like this Dave.  Not something you would expect from Mesquite Dunes, but when life give you lemons...... The tracks are cool.  Glad we're not the only family to travel with a cat :-)

Bummer about the photo class (I hope it wasn't led by a buddy of mine), but nice take away from tough conditions. I like the intimate comp. I might clone out the dark area along the upper edge?

Thanks for the feedback, folks. We've been more or less forced to travel with our cat, Buddy, due to some ongoing health issues. It took him a while to get used to being so far from home in an alien environment but by the end of the trip he was taking us on long walks through the desert. He did not enjoy being amongst all of the activity at Stovepipe.  He ultimately had a good time on the two week trip (we think.)

The photo workshop/class was more amusing than annoying. I've never taken a class (as I'm sure my work here illustrates ;-) because I've never thought of photography as a team sport I guess. I toyed with the idea of cropping or cloning that dark area up top so your mention of it Harley makes me think it's a good idea.

Good to see that you found some nice comps despite the horror events. I agree about the animal tracks, they are very nice.

Gotta love a longish haired orange cat...always sweethearts, if fixed.

ANy Idea  on the tracks?  I'm guessing mice and maybe a lizard?

I like this, a very pleasing image, Dave. Seems you made the best of the situation. btw I've had similar experience with footprints on the Mesquite dunes earlier this year. I walked in for nearly an hour and was still unable to find a sweeping vantage point of the dunes without footprints along all the ridges. Need to get lucky and arrive right after a sandstorm.
