Silver Fork

From last Wednesday morning, on the Silver Fork of the American River, camped at a location just 25 minutes from my truck. In the summer there would be dozens of people swimming in the warm water potholes at this location, called, appropriately, The Potholes. I had the place to myself for 24 hours. Plenty of water and a bit of residual snow from our average winter which seemed positively biblical compared to the last 4 years or so.

I like this. It's a very unusual composition but I find it intriguing. Way to think 'out of the box'. Yes, to my way of thinking, this is a fine image. Good job. There is much to explore and think about. My only nit is a very small one - the green moss on the right is a distraction.

If you squint it looks like a mountain and a sky. Nicely done.

This is a fun, dizzying view, Dave.  I like the look down the rocks into the rushing river and the movement contrast between the rocks and the water, which your ss choice shows off well while retaining some textures in the water.

Interesting combination of textures and lines. Sounds like a fun trip! :)

Glad to see you guys have had a normal winter. Not sure this one is working for me.  I like the idea and can see where your going, I just struggle with large, in your face, foreground elements.  The details and SS look just right.

Nice find, this comp! I like the golden patch in the urc in combination with the greenish water. This is not a nit, but more of an alternative. Maybe a very slight crop from the top to eliminate the darker stretch of water would work?

An unusual and fresh presentation. I find the composition and elements really nice.

My thoughts mirror Gary's, the foreground rock is overwhelming things for me. My eye seems to stop at that point.

Appreciate the comments everyone. I seem to remember from my several years of lurking that back then Stan Rose had a rule about prominent FG objects being undesirable. In this case the object for me was more of a surface than a solitary rock, shrub or flower and it was the crack which was important. I will say that I'm a big believer in breaking rules at least when it comes to "art" but of course YMMV.
