Crevice Fox

This is a photo of one of many, many foxes that were out and about in Yellowstone this winter.  It's the most foxes I can remember seeing in the park during a stretch like this, and I must have used up a bit of fox mojo, since I didn't see a single one the past two weeks during my most recent spring visit to the park.  Heading back in a few days to try again, but regardless it will be tough to beat the winter show they put on.

Max: nicely captured. The crevice forms a diagonal and the diagonal leads the eye right to the fox. Portrait orientation was the way to go for this image. Richard

Max, I love this one! Such wonderful colors, shapes and lines to complement this gorgeous creature. Also I'm glad to hear the foxes are back in big numbers.

Pleasing composition and pose, Max.  I like the vertical diagonal in the rocks and the fact that you were able to get the whole image in the depth of field plane.

Thanks guys.  I appreciate the feedback.  The crack screamed "vertical composition" immediately, but I really needed the fox to cooperate as well.  It was busy napping most of the time, in flat poses that actually lended themselves more to a horizontal composition, but once it stood up this all came together.

Hi Max,

Composition of this one is really compelling - great leading (diagonal) line, interesting textures, nice placement of the subject, and nice complementary colours supplied by the lichens in the rocks. I am wondering if the contrast - especially in the rocks themselves - is just a tad low?

But well-seen and well done - congrats!

Cheers...

An excellent look at this fox and it's environment, Max.  The fox stands out nicely as the main attention getter, but the shapes and colors in the rocks and lichen make this an overall beauty.
