12-Spotted Skimmer

Our pond usually brings in quite a few dragonflies and fortunately for me, 12-spotted skimmers are abundant this year.  I shot this one with back-lighting which produced lots of bokeh on the pond's surface. K5 IIs 300 mm f4 (1/400 sec at f16 ISO 500) Crop for comp, Shadows & Highlights, Gausia Blur plus mask layer for bokeh, Luminosity masks on bright lights, shadow darks, and midtones.

The bokeh fits well with the DF's colors and perch, Jim.  You've got great detail in the wings and body, that really show well in the larger view.  My first 12-Spot showed up yesterday, bringing my dragonfly species count up to 3....your pond must be bigger and have more varied habitat than mine to support 7 species already.

I really like the color patterns and the spotting with this one Jim. Wonderful details in the wings, especially in the larger version. It really blends into that BG.

Jim ...a beautifully crafted image, and love the bg and the setting here. My kind of an image. I would have loved the far wing to be sharp, but that would have affected the bg and scheme. Nice work
