"Lost"
Northern California Coast, Feb 21, 2005.

Pentax 67ii, 45mm, Velvia 50, 81B warming filter.

I plan on doing some minor color correction but that will have to wait until I get the chome drum-scanned. I am quite excited about this photo and would like to hear your take on it.

Thanks for looking.

Regards

VERY cool Anil!
The colors, the composition and the simplicity are wonderful. What really makes this special for me are the water "pleats" Very interesting to look at and add some nice texture.
I can see why you are excited, nice work.

Told you, Anil

Excellent image. The sand 'feathers' are amazing.

I like the uniformity of color throughout the image, and I guess the colors look fine to me. I'm a little undecided about the amount of darkness in the foreground. My instinct is to say it's a bit much, but it seems to work OK with the rest of the image.

Absolutely amazing. I love the colors, the sand texture. I like the dark foreground. Makes me feel like I'm looking into the distance more than if it were cropped. It looks like in the print the sand texture may come further down in the frame. :toast:

Looks like a great place to be lost. Great shot Anil. Maybe cropping some off the bottom would make it even stronger.

Anil,

On the monitor I'm using, this one loses some detail in the foreground that I'm guessing is actually there on the original. I'd love to see the original or a print, 'cause this is GORGEOUS! The texture/pattern/pleats in the sand are great, but I also like the subtle color variations in the water and the interesting sky. As I've seen Joseph Kayne say before - Good Photography!!

To me, Anil, the whole thing is floating, I wouldn't crop the bottom. The bottom gives weight to the bright and etherial top.

I saw the sand as feathers too, Anil. This has the potential to produce a great print when you have a better scan.

All the elements are there already though, the strongest for me being the feathers and the selective lighting of the sky. I think the dark foreground will work when you are able to pull out some of the subliminal texture that is obviously there (without losing the mood created by the darkness in the first place).

Nice work (so far).

The textures in the sand and the way they draw you into the image are outstanding. I tend to agree with those that are suggesting a slight crop from the bottom but either way works. I might also be inclined to tone down the hot area in the sky just a tad. Excellent work!

The foreground looks like scales almost, it really draws the eye. The dark foreground doesn't really add anything to the image and I think if you cropped it out it would really emphasis the pattern in the sand.

Anil,

Just mesmerizing. Very calm and simple and a joy to look at. Well done, and impressive tht you got that much dymanic range out of Velvia 50!

Anil,

Hope you are doing fine. I really love this shot and like Michael said, "The Feathers" are amazing, looks like a bird's wing.

Anil,
This has a very pleasing mood for me. I like the sand textures that lead my eye through the frame. I do not feel the FG darkness is bad.

Excellent shot, Anil, the feathering around the rock is really what makes it. As it's presented here, I think I could crop some off the bottom, but if you get detail in the new scan, keep definitely keep it as is. Colours look great to me. Did you take other compositions of the scene? I'd like to see a horizontal one as well.

The detailess 1/3 foreground provides a 'base' for the image to sit on and with the foreground it adds to the 3-d effect of the image. It feels like the photo bends away from the foreground - a cool effect. Of course there is also a square comp with the foreground cropped but that square photo would have a very different (but equally valid) feel. Awesome shot!
