Weekly Challenge # 752

The feeder in this case being my wife's hand.  In our neck of the woods, the Black-capped Chickadees are very hesitant to feed from one's hand, but the Chestnut-backs readily come.  This was when she first showed (corrected-please see comment below) me she could do it and I had to photograph it.

Canon 40D, 500mm f4 ISL + 1.4 TC, tripod and gimbal head, f/11, 1/400, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Not sure what version of Photoshop I used to process this.  Taken at 4:10 PM on January 26, 2009 in our back yard.

Comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Quite literally the Hand of (wo)Man.  That's two birds I've never seen before.  Nice angle o  the bird.

I misspoke myself in the post.  She first showed me how to feed the Chickadees back in 2005 when we were dating.  Here's one of the first pictures taken with a Digital rebel and an 18-55 kit lens.  Please pardon the abysmal quality.

I've thought about trying to get some of the local birds to hand feed, but never "got around" to putting in the time sitting and waiting.  Getting that much trust from a wild creature is always a special treat.  The sharpness and colors in the bird look great against a fine background, Dennis.

I've been able to hand feed greedy Stellar Jays at Mt. Rainier but have not tried the Chickadees.  I will admit they will let me approach them within a foot or so of the feeders before they fly off.  Nice shot and interesting BG..
