Devil's Rainbow (E-8)

I hope everyone isn't getting tired of these Escalante/Devil's Garden images. E-1 thru E-7 were all taken the same day, ending with the nighttime shot. This was taken the next morning. As mentioned in the nighttime post, it clouded up during the night, and sunrise looked like a bust. I even put my camera away when it started to rain. Then, the sun broke out and this rainbow appeared. Sorry the comp is the same as one of the previous sunsets, but it's where I was standing when the rainbow appeared, and it lasted only about a minute. Scott, it looks like you had outstanding photography conditions during your time here.  This is a wonderful view with the bow on the right and the bright clouds balancing the sky well.  Love the sense of depth that the foreground formations create and how that's enhanced by the sunlit ridge in the distance (that shows so well in the larger view).

Thanks, Mark. Yes, I experienced some amazing light and conditions in the day and half I was in Escalante. In fact, I was pretty happy with the entire week I was out there (you may remember the nice light and clouds in the shot from my first morning in death valley). It's pretty difficult to plan for light and conditions when you are flying across the country and have no flexibility in your trip dates. I was pretty fortunate. It helped on this trip that I was by myself and could chase the clouds.

Another very nice image, Scott.  Nice timing to catch the short lived bow.  Looks like a nice storm and a really nice location.

I think this might be might be my favorite of your series so far, Scott. You captured some amazing light and I like the fact that you lined the bow up with the notch in the rock formations. Sweet image.

Well only a fool ignores a second bite at a cherry as sumptuous as this one.  Happy to see it.

Please, no apologies for such a beautiful image. This is just spectacular, and I can't think of a thing about it I would change. What a glorious minute you caught here, Scott.

This may be my favorite of your DG images, Scott.  Nice for such a scene without any "icons", and although 50-50 split framing doesn't always work, the clouds and rainbow make up for it.  My only minor nit is that if possible a higher camera position to exclude the bit in the FG RHS might work.

Scott, I like this and E-2 the best.  This looks very natural to my eyes.  Only suggestion may be to touch upon the bright spot of cloud just inside right of the rainbow.

Great catch Scott; the rainbow adds to an already nice scene.

Scott: Glad you were prepared to capture the fleeting moment. I really like the light play throughout the frame and the rainbow is a great element. 2 thumbs up.>=))>

This is stunning! You had quite a productive day. Usually if I get 1-2 good images in a day I'm feeling good. The land contours work beautifully to pull the eye through the image to the rainbow. Processing looks excellent to my eye. No suggestions.
