Just a juvenile Goldfinch in late evening light and a kind of fun perch.

7DII, Sigma 150-600 C @ 600mm, hand held, f/8, 1/800, iso 800, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped from a horizontal to a 4x5 vertical.  Full height vertically.  Taken August 4th at 7:41 PM.

Your comments and criticisms are always appreciated.

Thanks,

Nice head turn and catch light.  I like the effect of the setting sun on the colors in the photo.  Great background. As usual good detail at 600 mm.  There is something along side the finch on the left side about half way down you might want to clone out.

Hi Dennis,

Overall looks pretty good.  Yes, there is a small artifact along the left side of the goldfinch that can be cloned out.  Pose, BG, and perch are very nice..........................Jim.

Dennis: beautiful detail in the wings and tail of the bird and the bird really stands out againt the muted b/g. My only nit would be to  selectively burn the perch as its brightness draws my eye away from the bird. Fine otherwise. Richard

Thanks for noticing the cloning artifact.  Here's a repost with it fixed and the bg dimmed a bit with respect to the Goldfinch.  Hopefully it's a bit better.

Excellent image.  I like the perch, the background and the nice head turn of the bird.  The repost improves it even more.

Great look at this Goldfinch, Dennis. Great pose, beautiful background and a very unique perch. You had some really nice light for this shot.

Nice head turn and very unique perch Dennis. I actually was fine with the original BG brightness and didn't think it competed with the bird. I think maybe reducing the perch brightness just a hair wouldn't be a bda thing though. My only other suggestion is I might place this just a touch higher in the frame to move it off center a bit more. Still nice work.

Wow!  Interesting perch, complimentary background and great head turn.  Love the dorsal view.  Handheld no less.
