Searching for target birds at a marshland mud flat a few days ago, I went back yesterday morning-equipped with my mobile blind-and waited for the birds to arrive. As I was thinking that perhaps it was going to be a slow morning, a Great Blue Heron flew into a shallow pool and surprised the other Heron fishing there. This is the first of several shots I captured from the encounter:

Dead Creek WMA, Panton Dam, Panton, VT

This is a nice behavioral shot but what I like about it most is the contrast between the greens of the environment and the grays of the herons. Nice composition. Sharper it needs to be. I like the fact that the birds are engaging each other. Well done.

Great relative positions, Chuck, and an interesting start to the series.  This really sets the scene.  I do wish you'd been aiming a touch higher as I think a bit more room on top and less on the bottom would make this even better.

I like this being shot at water level, though a bit more on top would be nice.  I like the composition and how the birds are eyeing each other and they contrast well with the green background.

Really like this behavior shot, Chuck. Great timing. You did a really good job getting both birds in focus. I am wondering if the composition may be a bit stronger if you were to drop from the bottom removing some of the OOF foreground and put more emphasis on the birds.
