Sandwich Wilderness

Large View Available

NH's White Mountains can look like a wave of  indistinguishable green during the summer, which is why I rarely get any interesting images during that time of year.  Some great lighting near sunset helped change all of that.  These granite outcrops are the closest thing we have to brain rock formations like I have seen in the sandstone areas out west, so I wanted to include them in the grand view. The prominent central peak is Mount Passaconaway. I took some tighter shots of the peaks with my 24-120 lens, but have not gotten around to processing them yet.  This was from last weekend.  A single RAW image processed x2 for the dynamic range.

Nikon D810, 24-120mm, polarizing filter.

Nice rays and perspective. Maybe a tad less of the FG rock and a bit more sky?
overall all I think the image could go a bit warmer.

Colorful and dramatic image, Harry. I like the comp with the lichen covered rocks anchoring the foreground, and the rays are outstanding.

Harry, What a great looking scene this is...Beautiful, and those light rays are just fantastic. At first I thought it might be just a tad over sharpened but then open the large version and just saw lots of wonderful detail and textures. Composition works great for me. Nice work! cool

You certainly handled the range of light in this scene perfectly, Harry. The FG lichen covered granite is fantastic as is the interplay of light and shadow and the rays of light are gorgeous. You captured a beautiful scene.

Wonderful handling of light and the layered composition works well. The beautiful foreground layer adds a lot to this image which appears to be primarily about rays of light.
