At this point I’m not sure what was on this Grey Heron’s mind. Possibly it was eating its heart out, wishing it were a Tri-color Heron, having received word of Sandy’s superb posting on 08/27/16. Who knows what is passed around in avian circles?
Your crits. and nits are most welcome

Very nice portrait with excellent detail David, I would run some noise reduction on the bg. devil

Nice heron portrait, David.  Superb detail throughout the bird and I like the dark bg for a portrait.

Hi David
I like the head shot and you great eye contact.  On my Mac I really had to look hard to see any noise in the background.

Thanks for your comments.  Noise shows in the BG when the larger version is viewed on my iMac, but only on further increasing the degree of magnification – using CTRL roller ball. In this instance at ISO 650 I was reluctant to use more noise reduction on the BG – I risked compromising the definition of the ‘whiskery’ outline of the bird. In general I’m disappointed with the dynamic range of my D810.

Great portrait, wonderful detail.  I do see noise in the background but understand your reasoning for not wanting to do further noise reduction on this one.
