Autumn Great Gray

I was in the Yellowstone area this week getting some work done at our cabin.  Thankfully, I finished everything early, which gave me several hours to get into the park for a little photography before flying home.

Great gray owls have been seen frequently the last several months, so I hoped to find one and work on some flight shots.  I (and many others) scored with this cooperative juvenile, which was actively hunting for several hours.

Really like teh wing position. This species is still on my list. I spent eleven days in Yellowstone and didn't get a glimpse of one. Stayed just outside Cooke City. Isn't your cabin in that area?

Excellent catch - if they are out and about, makes me want to head there toDAY.
Fine detail and pose, against a great BG.
Very fine work!

Jerry, we now have two cabins in Silver Gate, just down the road from Cooke.

Sandy, by all accounts, the owls are still putting on a show.  I heard from a photographer who had them the last two days.  Better get packing. enlightened

Excellent flight shot Max. The background is very complimentary to your owl. The thing that strikes me as strange is the owl doesn't appear to have feet! Very cool shot!  devil

Interesting angle, Max.  They always look so tall when they're perched, but this one looks short and stubby.  Sweet flight shot with a lovely bg.

Where were the owls, Max? Not that I can get to them this year, but I'm curious.

Jerry, this one was near Bridge Bay.  There have been others near Canyon.  However, in the last three days, two have been killed (including this one), struck by vehicles as they flew across the road.  Sadly, this is something of a common occurrence for this low-flying, slow-gliding species.

Congrats on the EP, Max.  Great image of the GGO.  Sorry to hear it was hit by a car.
