Leopard on lookout

by Stephen Kaluski

This female Leopard was on the lookout for breakfast as she gazed at a small herd of Impala about 50m away. Using the cover of the tree, she waited patiently, only moving occasionally to get a better POV of the moving herd.

What a beautiful portrait of this gorgeous leopard Stephen. The sunlight and shade make for very nice lighting. I would like to pet that cat, but that is probably not a good idea.  Well done.

Hi Steve,

I also like the mottled lighting on this one...for me that adds a nice element of "reality" to the shot. For my taste it's a bit on the "busy" side, primarily owing to the background foliage (which obviously you could do nothing about, but still has the effect of inhibiting the subject from "standing out" as much as it could). If this is a crop and you have more pixels all-round I'd experiment with shifting the subject slightly to the right (giving it a little more room to look into).

Cheers...

The clarity and sharpness is great here, Steve.  I'm drawn to the intensity of here gaze yet her position looks pretty relaxed.  In comparing the two versions, I prefer the original post as it does a better job of emphasizing her and her gaze.

Cheers Mark, I think it can go either way, I just wished I had a tad more below so the paw isn't touching the trim edge.

Thanks
