Bighorn Basin Pastels

Here's another look some erosion forms in Wyoming's Bighorn Basin.  In this case the colors are much subtler, but there's a gentle warmth and some interesting lines and shapes.  While there are some nice clouds in the sky in this view, the sky overhead was gently overcast, which lets the shadow details show nicely.  (5D3, 70-200 f2.8 @ 70mm, f/13, 1/60s, iso 200, tripod and polarizer)

I like the muted tones, Mark, and the layered effect of the landscape.  The sky, with the clouds seeming to drift into the distance over the hilltops, hints at wide open spaces beyond.

Nice scene, Mark. I like all the detail and the clouds a nice touch. You might consider increasing the contrast a bit, perhaps darken the blue in the sky, and punch up the saturation just a bit. I love the varied landscape.

Mark, The kind of landscape scene that just makes me wish I was there to explore. The layered comp with interesting lines and shapes makes this quite interesting to look at. I like the subtle colors as they are and very much enjoy what those clouds add to the scene.

Hi Mark,

The large version is well worth examining--although the colors are muted, the palate is pleasing to the eye.  Maybe a small tweak to the contrast and darken up the sky a tad as Preston suggested before printing this one out for the wall.  The change between foreground and BG colors is also ideal. Well donedevil.........................Jim

Very nice, Mark. The softer light really lets the viewer enjoy all the fine details in the landscape. The sky and clouds complement the scenery.

Mark, this is one of those images that just doesn't translate until we pop open the LARGER version. WOW, what a surprise looking at the neat terrain on display here. Detail is super on the larger image by far.

Mark,

Here is another great landscape image. the layers a little more subtle, but work beautifully.  What I find most interesting is the subdued overcast lighting on a landscape, that judging from the sky, should be hot and uninviting.  this works beautifully.
