Canon 1D-X, 500mm f4 x 1.4TC, tripod
f5.6, 1/50, ISO12800

Very low light; cloud forest and dense jungle canopy. I'm reasonably happy with the camera's performance at the high ISO. Only a bird that essentially freezes its position would let me get away with the very slow shutter speed.

Full frame. Noise reduction to background; slight sharpening to bird.

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Surely this is a lifer.  You did very well to use those settings to capture an image like this.

Sweet! beautiful bird and excellent setting. unless one has been there, they can't understand how tough jungle shots are - the birds are usually high in the canopy, light is limited, and most birds are skittish.
VERY fine work

Very nice.  Not only a great shot of the bird, but I like that it shows the environment also.

Excellent, Jim.  I'm amazed at the performance of that camera in low light conditions.  Excellent composition and really good detail in the bird and mosses.  I'm always amazed at what a low shutter speed I can sometimes get away with.  Most birds seem to pause now and then for half a second or so and if you can get the focus and click off a burst one of them seems to usually be good.

Well I'm impressed shooting at iso 12,800 and getting results like this.  I wouldn't even try that with any of my Nikons.  Super job on the postprocessing to pull something out like this.   There is a slight bit of an aqua cast but after all it is the rain forest.
