Spinner Dolphins

Taken from a boat off the Napali coast of Kauii.

D300, 18-105 Nikkor at 21, ISO 400, 1/500 @ f6.3, polarizing filter, about 50% crop.

I used such a wide angle because both the boat and dolphins were moving at  high speed.

Pretty good detail given the pitfalls of having distortion in the water.  Smart choice going with the polarizer.  I love the blue tones.

Hello Skip

I agree with Max and the use of polarizing filter. Like the arrangements of the pairs and their perceived angle of descent.

thanks for sharing

Very pleasing image.  Filter and wide angle lens both worked well here.

Great choices.  I think the composition as shown is exceptionally pleasing. I like the sense of depth in the darker blues nicely accented with just enough of light reflections from water surface.    Hopefully you have enough detail in this crop for a decent print, as I think it wall worthy.

I like that you see the dolphins through the water from above, a refreshing view as it were.
I agree that the polariser was a good call!

Hi Skip,

Very nicely done - love the forms and the colour (and, of course, the simplicity of the image). I realize the water adds some distortion I am still quite amazed by the length of the "beaks" on them.

Thanks for sharing this one...
