Hyena pup

This young pup had emerged from the den, waiting eagerly for the clan to arrive back, bring food.

Shooting this again I would have easily cranked up the ISO for a greater SS, although shooting at lowish SS can be done, it's not ideal, a higher SS would have been far more preferable, especially with the 1DX MKII.

Thanks to those who viewed or posted a comment on the previous thread.

They really are cute in weird bat kind of way.  Was this a night drive?  It looks really sharp.

Hi Ana, no just the way the light fell, but it was towards the end of the day. No flashlight or spot light was used, all natural.

Thanks

Hello Steve, good details, but very tight,  would like more room, if you had it,especially in front of the snout.

Thanks for Sharing

Hi William, yes tight as I was shooting vertical when he (or she) turned. There is a fraction more to the RHS, but in an ideal world it should have gone landscape in format. However, personally I feel the concentration is on the main part the eye and face, but being very close to the image, I guess we all see things in a different light, LOL.

Cheers.

Seems to me you managed fine with 1/320.  I cannot remember anyone posting a hyena pup...so thanks!   Details look good, especially eye and wet nose, showing good depth of field control.

Hi Lon, thanks for swinging by.

As I said many times now, I rarely like to shoot this low with the new bodies, you just don't need too. Yes of course you can shoot low, but why, it also requires a certain amount of skill when HH and you run the risk of the capture not being sharp. DoF I think I was lucky, I think going f/9 might have helped, especially being close in, but I really wanted to isolate the face/head, and utilizing the light too.

cheers
Steve
