I'm not sure whether it's legal or not, but I actually saw this challenge on the schedule some time ago and on November 9th, my wife and I went to the Northwest Carriage Museum partially so I could photograph something new and partially because we've had an invitation from the manager of the museum through an on-line acquaintance with my wife.  We ended up getting a wonderful private tour and I had permission to move signs out of the way to photograph exhibits.  It was very much something new, since the only museums I've ever photographed in were aviation and I rarely do any indoor photography.  The biggest problem seems to be finding a way to isolate the subject.  I suspect that the best way, ideally, would be to get permission to photograph when the museum is closed and have permission to put up some kind of portable backdrop to isolate the individual exhibits from one another.

By the way, this is a very educational museum, and you soon learn how much the language of cars (and their design) goes back to the horse-drawn era.

5DIII, EF28-70 f/2.8L @ 34 mm, f/4, 1/250, iso 1600, fill flash, aperture priority, pattern metering.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to 17 MP before resizing.  Taken November 9, 2016.

Comments and criticisms are most appreciated.

Thanks,

I see everyone's going for manmade stuff.  That's a good idea, that I may look into as well.  A fine look at this wonderfully restored carriage, Dennis.  I think this is decently isolated.  I think the poster behind adds some good context.  Yes getting the bit of wheel on the left and the bit of table lrc out would be subtle improvements, but this view does a good job of focusing attention on the carriage.  (I suppose another option would be a super wide lens say in the 15 - 21 mm range.)

Dennis, I can truly appreciate your efforts applied here. I would not have a clue where to start with any indoor photography, beyond using a P&S or iPhone shot.
For me it is "always" about the lighting and how well my gear and film will react in covering the span between light and dark. You've done a premier job here with that aspect. With the extreme light from the BG window this came out very nice even in the darker areas.
I might crop or do some C&A work on the left wheel poking in there and and maybe the lower right table? and leg, but all looks good for those changes if applied.

Dennis, the exposure and lighting are wonderful here. As you say, it's not easy to figure out how to isolate the subject, but what you've done works well here; at least as a matter of personal taste, I prefer to see some contextual stuff rather than putting up a backdrop to isolate the subject completely. The latter might work well if you were shooting the carriage for some sort of encyclopedia article, say, but otherwise it's nice to see it in situ.
