Michigan Nature Association has purchased some areas of select habitat and high species diversity and the Mary Rizor preserve is no exception.  This is a Winter scene taken early this morning of a downed tree with ice in the feeder creek for Lake Shannon.  Luckily all the snow melted leaving some rim ice along snags so I hope this is a suitable winter image sans snow! I used 5 exposures at f16 and ISO 160 to capture most of the dynamic range from 10 seconds to 2 seconds.  I adjusted curves and used several luminosity masks to brighten the lights and increase midtone contrast.  I finished this image with a boost in overall contrast and a slight tweak up in brightness. Thank you for looking and I appreciate your critiquescrying...............................Jim

There is a lot to explore in this image.   And it certainly meets the theme of the challenge.  I'm sitting in my unheated computer area just so I can experience the full impact of these images.  And it works.  I really like the edges of the ice throughout the image.  There's a lot of really cool textures to view.

Very nice, Jim.  Excellent job on the processing.  I love the detail you got out of the riverbed.

Jim, Ilike the ice and the details in the fallen tree.  It's clear from ice on the far bank that the water level has dropped a couple of times during this cold spell.  I wish the grape vine across the front weren't there, but know from experience that these small preserves rarely offer the "clean views" that NPNer like.  Your work at handling the contrast looks great.
