Weyerhaeuser Tree Farm

This is actually from a bit over two years ago.  I posted another version of this in Man and Nature in November of 2015, but I thought it was appropriate for this challenge.  The tree farm is at the end of our little gravel road and 100 yards left, so it's pretty accessible.  In cold weather they turn on the sprinkler system and cover the seedlings with ice to prevent them from being too badly frost bitten.  For this image I went out at first light (not that early in November around here).  It's amazing how thick they'll let it build up.

5D3, 28-70 f2.8 L at 70mm, tripod and cable release, f/7.1, 1/160, iso 400, aperture priority, pattern metering, +2/3 stop compensation.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Slight rotation for straightening and cropped from hte bottom as when I first posted it some of the comments mentioned that the foreground didn't add anything to the image.  Taken November 17, 2014 at 7:32 am (sunrise is theoretically about 7:15 here at that time of year, but it has to get over the Cascade Mountains).

I look forward to your comments and criticisms.

Thanks,

Have a natural ice coating outside my window, but no where near the thickness of the ice here.  Great image that fits the theme well.

That's a ton of ice in the foreground, Dennis, with the reason behind it shown well in the middle distance.  The touch of warmth as the sun touches the trees makes a fine contrast to the chilly foreground.

Very interesting image.  I like the contrast between the ice covered trees in the FG and the trees in the BG.  Thanks for sharing.

Dennis this is really interesting. Amazing it doesn't just wipe the small plants out, but we do the same thing with the citrus here in California when it gets too cold. Hard to believe it actually insulates them from some of the damage. Love the nice warmth showing in the BG against the chilly coldness of the foreground.

I like the colors and the panoramic composition on this one.  It really goes from very cold looking to warm looking in the background.  Nicely done.
