The Raging Pacific

Not crying any longer! (See a similar image posted a couple days ago). THIS time I had my good camera!

We knew huge waves were predicted, but these are the biggest anyone here remembers.
We ran down to the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City, CA  (25 miles south of us) as soon as it was light enough. This is about 1/2 tide - not even high tide yet. Some of the waves were crashing over the backside of the rock and coming to roof-top height.

I like the first one much more. Sharper, better color, great contrast, well, just everything-------NOT!
I love it when the Pacific gets roiling and crashing.  The raw power is extraordinary. This image demonstrates that very well, especially the foreground wave just after it curled over. Nice timing and very nice image.

This is an excellent shot also, Sandy.  I think I like the simpler, less busy composition in the cellphone shot better but this one has more detail in the water plus the seagulls are a nice bonus.

Hi Sandy
First....Jim: Dude, that was cold!!!  blush

Sandy: This place is clearly worth visiting often.  While the technical superiority of the second image is clear (at least all that $ wasn't wasted, right?), I prefer the simpler comp of the first image as well.  It was more brutal, more isolated feeling, etc.  Apparently, I like isolated brutality.

Sandy: On a visit to Oregon in 2015 we were treated to a spectacular high surf show at Shore Acres SP outside of Coos Bay. It was an unforgettable experience so I envy your opportunities at Battery Point. I like this but do prefer the original. Well done on both. >=))>
