Cloudscape

I was in Yosemite for a few days last week. I got a couple nights of rain, one night of heavy wet snow (18 inches or so) and lots of clouds and fog. And plenty of falling branches and trees. I got kicked out of the campground on Sat. when they evacuated it.

Nice imaging, Harley.  Yeah, it's been a wet sloshy place for most of this year.  I left before the evacuation.

WOW, must be nice to get out to places like this whenever you please....sad

Glad to see you're taking immediate advantage of your new retirement status.
Congratulations on the well deserved promotion.......devil

A really wonderful or I would say a more unique or different look from the valley then I'd ever seen before. With all the cloud and or low laying fog this was a natural for the B&W version or look too.
Very nice......laugh

btw: with another look here part of that different look is the diagonal flow from the URHC.....cool

Really awesome, Harley. Very moody and mysterious. The hanging fog cooperated nicely framing the falls and beautifully simplifying the comp. Retirement is looking up...

I was hoping you'd get some good storm conditions.  And by the looks of it, you did.  Nice look at the falls cutting thru the storm.  You probably got kicked out for being too rowdy, newly retired and all.  Evacuation sounds like a good excusewink

Beautifully unique take on a grand icon.  I like the way that the v-shape in the fog converges at the base of the waterfall.  Great mood and atmosphere!

This really comes out in the large version. Do you like the cloud in the lower left corner? Would the image look better with a left crop that remove the cloud?

The combination of misty clouds and falling water works well here, Harley.  I like the strong down hill from right to left and how it stops at the cleft.  I think that a bit of burning of the snowy rocks at the very left edge would add to the visual stop there.

Hi Harley,

I love the atmosphere you capturef in this image. I really enjoy how the fog is surrounding the lone waterfall. I feel a very nice sense of solitude in this image. I can't think of anything I would like to suggest to improve this one.

Congrats on the retirement, so is th plan to ude photography full time now?

Great conditions you encounter and glad to avoided the falling branches.  I might not have placed the falls dead center, but no knowing what was available to the left, this may have been your best option.  Love the trees poking through the fog.  Beauty!

I love the clouds and the dynamics of the water and snow. The trees peeking out from the clouds are a nice touch.
I agree with Igor about cropping all, or some of the cloud in the lower left corner. Doing so would also pull the falls off center a bit.
One thing I really like is the viewpoint of this. This is not the typical vantage point for Yosemite Falls.
Nicely done, sir. Definitely check the large version, everyone.

Great take on the falls Harley.  The low-lying clouds/fog are scattered perfectly, revealing the falls and the cliff details and trees. B&W also a great choice here.  Can't say there is anything to improve upon!
