Snow in the Park

This past week we had several inches of new snow and it was really pretty. I went over to Governor Dodge State Park which is only about 15 miles from my home to see what it looked like there. At the higher elevations in the park it was just beautiful with about a foot of fresh snow. This is one of the pictures I made while I was there and decided I wanted to process it for a Christmas Card and see how it looked. I did add some orton effect and that was mostly around the outer edges. I thought for the Christmas look that might work ok and I feel for a card it probably did. As a large print I don't think that would work to well but this image probably doesn't have enough interest to do a large print anyway. Thought I would post it here and see what you guys thought. Maybe I can sell it, or maybe not...or maybe a calendar image. cool Large version included for better look. Thanks, Nick

Geez, and all we get is cold rain...  A beautiful after the storm snow scene, Nick, with the heavy coatings still on the branches and the touches of clearing in the sky.  This will make a great Christmas card.  I don't see the Orton effect particularly on the edges, but do think that the softening does a fine job of keeping interest in the frame.  The one thing I'd play with is some dodging of the lighter tones in the two main trees, that might add a subtle bit of extra pop.

Nick,

A winter wonderland, this is beautiful!  I think your processing is terrific and indeed would make a great Christmas card. Thought of that even before reading your comments.  I can notice the slight orton effect and it's beautifully applied.

Thanks Lon and Mark, That might be worth a try Mark.
The week before we got this snow all we were getting was cold freezing rain and it was pretty miserable, and sure not pretty. Just made a mess of things. The fresh snow was great for making things look good again.

There is something about the quality of light in this image that I find very appealing.  The subtle lighting really brightens the mood of this scene.

This scene actually reminds me of the final comic strip from Calvin and Hobbes:

Beautiful winter scene. I think it would work well as a card or a print. A winter tree family portrait!

Yep, I think this would work quite nicely for a Christmas card, Nick.  Nothing over the top, just a good solid winter image.  Very nice.

You make icy cold conditions look so attractive to this Florida boy Nick!!!  I love this, and it works so well in color, even though the color is almost absent.  You should have no trouble selling this.  The large version is a real treat to the eyes, especially the smaller grasses and the possible tracks (?) in the ULC.  Great job Nick.

Very pleasing image. The soft light and Orton combine to create a dreamy quality that works well. I can see this working in the Christmas card for sure.

This would make a fine image for a Christmas card IMO. It has a feel good sense to it that is needed. I don't think it has the emotional impact of some of your recent posts in this gallery. I like the breaking blue sky and sunshine that gives a sense that winter's end is fast approaching. As with all your images, this shows a love of the land.

I think this would make a good card.  But after seeing "After the Snow", I don't think this has nearly the attraction of that one.  This is interesting, and well processed, but face, it, I already got spoiled by looking at the other one first........cheeky

Wonderful luminosity Nick.  I love the touch of blue in the sky.  Reminds me of a clearing snow storm.
