The Hawaiian subspecies of the Black-necked Stilt.  Another one from the Taro Ponds at Hanalei NWR on Kauai.  I never got a shot at one of these in the open as they were always in the ponds, but I kind of liked the way this one was framed by the taro leaves.

7Dii, Sigma 150-600 C @ 546 mm, hand held, f/8, 1/400, iso 1250, aperture priority, pattern metering, -1/3 EV.  Processed in LR5 & CS6.  Cropped to a 14.3 MP 4x5 before resizing.  Taken at 8:11 AM on January 29th.

Please view the large image, if possible.

Comments and criticisms are most welcome.

Thanks,

Very nice image of this fellow. They were everywhere when we were there, including in roadside puddles. I like the additional black on the head over the eyes and halfway to the beak on these Hawaiian stilts, as opposed to our black-necks.
They all have beautiful red eyes, so i wonder if you can pull out some of the red eye here?
Very nicely framed by the greenery!
Sandy

What a nice setting, Dennis..... Interesting bird, would love to see it some day. This would make me have to go back to Kauai, but who would mind that enlightened ? Great shot ! Hans

Wonderful detail in the larger version.  I agree with you about the framing.  It looks really nice.
