A Splash of Color

LARGE VERSION AVAILABLE

Thanks to everyone who commented on my previous image - I appreciate it.

Captured this scene on a foggy and rather dreary sunrise in the marsh at St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge.  There was little color to be seen so this little patch of palmetto's stuck out.

Critiques and comments welcomed and greatly appreciated.  Thanks for looking.

Gorgeous textures fading from sharp to soft in the bg - almost abstract in quality, Bill.  Love the touch of colour, placed so nicely in the frame.  A very slight nit is the brightness of the twigs below the palmetto, which I wonder about taking down, but not a big deal.

Bill,

So often it's the simple things in our work that are the most effective. This is wonderful.  I think what works so well for me is the depth of field - or lack of. The shallow dof with the bg grasses soft, really makes the stick on the right stand out, but also the palmetto stands out better as well.

Well seen and captured. No nits here.

Well seen and a nicely captured image, Bill. I like the placement of palmetto in the scene, and the way it stands out from the sea of grass. The grass actually has the same colors, just way more subdued, so everything is very cohesive.

I really like this photo, I probably would have removed the twigs in front but that's me. I like your photo

Very simple, and very nice, Bill.  Love the splash of color and the lone snag complimenting each other in the frame.  I would tone down the lighter twigs in front of the palmetto a bit.

Bill, This is a neat shot! That lone branch works great against the softness of the background grass and that splash of color in the palmetto's works beautifully. I agree toning down the brightness of the twigs in front would be a good idea if you can do it. This does have some nice subtle layers in the grass as one keeps looking.

Very well done, Bill. I agree with the comments about the foreground twigs, but not big. I also like the shallow DOF. Very effective.  Well seen and executed.

A great catch, Bill.  That palmetto couldn't have show up better if you'd have put spot lights behind it.  The splash of color is balanced nicely by the dead tree and set off so well by the muted color and textures of the grass.

Well composed, Bill.  Reminds me of the scenes along the road to Flamingo.

Great use of layers, Bill. The palmetto and the snag really pop. I agree the foreground twigs are slightly distracting. You could try burning them down a bit. I love the various colors in the fronds. Neat shot!

We seen Bill. This looks great in the large view; the palm and tree stand out nicely from the softer background.
