Yellowstone Crossing

This young bull was looking for a place to cross the Yellowstone River where there were about 80 to 100 of my closest friends, all with their cameras out, all out of their vehicles moving up and down the river with the young elk. He tried several different angles and finally gave up and went back across. Canon 40D, f8, 1/160 sec, iso 400, 100-400 ISL at 120 mm, handheld, slight crop from original.

Interesting story behind this photo.  Nice image of the elk.  I like how the water looks around him.  Good color and detail in his body.  Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ed,
Love the color and texture of the water and elk. Also the cautious attitude of the elk. I wish your point of view was a little lower as I think a being above the animal often reduces the emotional impact of the shot.

Cheers,

Hisham.

The rich saturation of colors adds an interesting and eye catching quality to the water.  I think I would sacrifice some of the foreground and reflection to make the proportion of colored water higher...maybe even to  square crop?

Nice image.  I must admit, I do find it a bit irritating that people affected his ability to go where he wanted....

I hear you Genny. Unfortunately the cars pile up when it is busy and they were packed. Most of the cows and young calves had already made it through before everything piled up on the young bull following the rest.
