Mallard Ducklings

Another sign of spring is Mallard ducklings.  This female Mallard and her ducklings found a place to rest in the tall grasses near the edge of a lake at the arboretum.  There were at least two more ducklings that are not visible here but were hiding in the grasses next to their mom.  Once in a while I would see them pop their little heads up and peek out between the blades of grass.  I took this image last April.

Canon 60D, Canon 70-300@300mm, f/8, 1/500, ISO400.

I appreciate all comments and critiques.

Cool, young ducks!  The Canada geese are nesting by the runoff control pond next door again (4th year) but just started sitting last week due to our very cold March weather.  This view shows momma Mallard and the two youngsters in their surroundings very well.

Barb,
Oh yes, the "offspring of spring", as it were can be a real delightful happenstance if one is lucky enough to come upon such a gathering as we see here. The view of the momma duck poking up in the grass is enough to  peak our interest into looking deeper for her young ones too......sad

Delightful image, Barb. Major cuteness factor.
