King Penguins - WC #782

Olympus E-3, 300mm f2.8, handheld from Zodiac raft
f11, 1/250, ISO250

Elsehul, South Georgia Island, 2010. It was too rough and there were too many testosterone-laced young male Southern Fur Seals, so we couldn't land. This line of King Penguins required a high f-stop but high shutter speed with the raft bounding around. On the E-3, ISO250 was about as high as you could push it. (The line is a courthship thing.)

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

The collective poses are fun, Jim.  Nice color and good job handheld.

Jim, there is always at least one non conformist in every crowd.......sad

Very nicely done from the bounding and bouncing raft. Nature sure gave the various penguin groups some of the nicest colors and overall generally clean appearances too. The 3 amigos all dressed up with hopefully somewhere to go......enlightened

Excellent to get them all in sharp focus, under those conditions!
Love the colours and detail.
Very fine work!

The line of penguins looks great, Jim.  Their plumage is quite elegant and stands out very well against the plain colors in the background.  I'm amazed at the sharpness on all three given the f-stop.

This is a really good depth of field effect because of the foreshortening; the Penguins seem really skinny from front to back.  Nice colors, textures, head position, and contrast between the birds and their environment.

Penguins are such fun and interesting birds. The DOF is spot on here. You caught great poses with this lineup.

Congrats here Jim on this neat image being selected for the WP in this last weeks WC gallery. A very whimsical scene. I liked the fact that not everyone, or animal, travels to the beat of the same drum. In this case the end bird looking elsewhere....sad
