Fire Fall
by Sairam Sundaresan
The name "Fire Fall" has been used synonymously with Horsetail falls in Yosemite, but I can tell you with all certainty that it does not hold a candle to the fire hose phenomenon that I was lucky enough to witness in Hawaii. The last image I posted from here (In the M&N Gallery) didn't have lava pouring out like this. That was the first day of my visit. On the second day, I setup shop as usual and thought about getting a closer perspective of the lava. About an hour in, I heard a loud cracking sound. First, I thought the ground under me was giving way, but I saw that the crust formed on the cliff's edge by the lava had given way and out poured lava like a waterfall. I couldn't believe my eyes! The fire hose actually became better and more dense after my visit, but nonetheless, I was happy to catch this phenomenon when it happened.
Appreciate any thoughts you have on this one!

13 commentsAn incredible display of the power of nature. Like someone else mentioned, I can only imagine what this is like to experience in person. Wow!
Not be to critical, cause one can't really be with this type of imagery. But I think there is a complete stand alone image of the left half. One could exploit the dynamic smoke/steam and the fireworks at the bottom could give this a whole different look and impression without the firefall on the right. But then, who am I kidding... ;-)
Thanks for sharing this experience.
